Bio

Dr. Michael Torregano

Dr. Michael Torregano comes from a musical family. The youngest of four boys, he began playing piano at the age of 5. During his school years he also studied violin and clarinet.  Michael developed a love for music at an early age and by the time he was in Jr. High School he knew that he wanted to play music professionally. He received a Doctor of Musical Arts from Boston University.  Michael has been active as an educator for over 30 years, teaching on all levels.

Michael has entertained audiences in the U. S. and abroad.  He performed in his brother—Joseph Torregano’s quartet for 31 years.  Additionally, Michael has had the pleasure of performing with many New Orleans and national artists including Allen Toussaint, Deacon John, Dave Bartholomew, Johnny Adams, Lowell Fulsom, Rita Coolidge and George Benson.

In 2000 Michael released his first CD as a solo artist—Without Your Love.  This CD enabled Michael to display his talents in the Smooth Jazz genre.  His 2015 CD—Doctor Jazz visits the traditional New Orleans jazz genre and it also includes selections from the Great American Songbook.  Michael's latest recording For Your Ears Only released in 2018 showcases his current quartet playing traditional New Orleans jazz songs and his own arrangements of New Orleans classics such as Jazz Me Blues and When My Dreamboat Comes Home. His current band includes Jamil Sharif on trumpet, Wilbur Thompson on bass, and Chris Guccione on drums. The band currently plays Sunday and Monday nights on the Riverboat Creole Queen. Regardless of what style of music Michael plays, he brings energy and excitement to every performance.
